Apple Only Smartphone Maker to Grow in Last Quarter

Apple was the only smartphone maker to make progress in the last quarter. This is according to Canalys researchers, with Cult of Mac breaking down the data.

“Apple defied expectations in the second quarter,” said Canalys analyst Vincent Thielke. “Its new iPhone SE was key during the quarter, accounting for around 28% of its global volume, while the iPhone 11 remained a solid bestseller at almost 40%. The iPhone SE will remain crucial to sustaining volume this year, amid delays in Apple’s next flagship release. In China, it achieved successful results, increasing 35% to 7.7 million units. It’s unusual for Apple’s second quarter shipments to increase sequentially. In addition to the new iPhone SE, Apple is also demonstrating skills in acquiring new users. It quickly adapted to the pandemic, doubling the digital customer experience as stay-at-home measures drive more customers to online channels. What particularly impresses me about Apple’s success during the quarter is the number of potential issues it needs to navigate.
