Apple debuted its Self Service Repair service on Wednesday, allowing customers to purchase the parts they need to repair their own iPhones. The program is now available for the iPhone 12, iPhone 13, and the latest version of the iPhone SE, but Apple plans to expand it to additional devices, including Mac models with Apple CPUs.
Before customers can even order the necessary parts, they must review the manuscript explaining the repairs. Consumers can repair parts of the smartphone including displays, batteries and cameras. After reading the script, customers then go to a specialty store on Apple’s website to order special features. Customers can also rent tool kits for $ 49 if they plan on making a repair. Amazon Go: In the new low-cost store coming into the suburbs When Apple launched the program last November, the company emphasized the improvements were for experienced customers adjusting electronics. “For most customers, visiting a professional repair manufacturer with certified technicians who use genuine Apple versions is the safest and most reliable way to get a repair,” the company said.
Last month, Samsung said it would roll out a similar system for customers to adjust their Galaxy S20 and S21 devices as well as the Galaxy Tab S7 +. There are new initiatives amid increased efforts in supporting customers’ right to repair their equipment. Last July, the Federal Trade Commission unanimously adopted a policy statement supporting the right to reform, with increased implementation and robust new regulations.
