Becoming a new company to experiment with a platform integration for short video clips, Spotify is testing a TikTok music feed in its app. The feature, will be made available by clicking on the new fourth tab marked “Browse” in the navigation bar below, which is currently in beta mode for selected users.
The site introduces full screen music videos to songs as users browse, with the option to “like” or “skip” similar to the popular TikTok platform, according to TechCrunch.
“At Spotify, we do a lot of testing regularly to improve our user experience,” a spokesman told TechCrunch. “Some of those tests ended up paving the way for a broader user experience and others functioning as a core discipline only. We have no other news to share at this time. ”
The feature was first spotted by Spotify user Chris Messina, who shared a video on Twitter on Thursday unveiling a new video feed in the beta version of Spotify for iOS on TestFlight, an application that allows developers to test versions of their programs.
Spotify did not respond to Director’s request to comment when the feature could be rolled out to more than 81 million users in the US.
The new Discovery Tool appears to build on the Spotify canvas feature, where artists can select videos to play with their music. Currently, the videos in the Discovery feed appear to be the same as those used for Canvas, according to TechCrunch.
Since TikTok first launched in 2016, the app has had a total of 1 billion monthly users. The success of the application has enabled other social media platforms such as Instagram and YouTube, to develop their own platforms for short-term video sharing. In an effort to compete with TikTok, some social media platforms have even encouraged developers with thousands of dollars to post on their platforms.
