Why Apple Removes Old Apps from Your iPhone App Store

Apple, which has removed programs that have not been updated for some time, has revealed that past applications are being removed from the App Store because no one has installed them. Developers of apps that have not been updated in three years and have not met a number of records will receive “an email informing them that their app has been identified for possible removal from the App Store,” in according to Apple.

It means that “the application has not been downloaded at all or at any time during this 12-month period”, it said in an update on Friday. While Apple will remove outdated applications from the App Store, any pre-recorded apps will be available on consumer devices. Earlier this week, several app developers, such as Protopop Games developer Robert Kabwe, expressed their concerns about the change. Apple says developers can appeal app launches.

“And the developers, including those who recently received notice, will be given more time to update their applications if needed – up to 90 days,” the company said. The uninstalled application will continue to function as normal for users who have already downloaded the app on their device. “Consumer confidence in quality applications is the foundation for everything we’ve done in writing and running the App Store,” Apple said.
