NBCUniversal is preventing Peacock from being accessed through a VPN, The Mac Observer has found. The service is only available in America, and it appears travelers will not be able to access it during this operation.
No Peacock access via VPN at home or abroad
Following its recent launch, the streaming service is only available in the United States. www.peacocktv.com elsewhere, a gray screen and a message indicating “this service is not available in your region” appear. The normal way around this is to use a virtual private network (VPN). Users often do this when trying to broadcast something abroad. Enabling a VPN and setting the region to US allows you to sign up for the free version of Peacock. However, as soon as the user tries to watch Peacock content with a VPN enabled, an error message appears.
As of copyright law, NBCUniversal has every right to restrict access to Peacock to certain territories where I am in London and this is a US service offered by a US rights holder. I can’t watch it. However, this means that Americans traveling will be in the same situation. Additionally, those who use a VPN in the US for security and privacy reasons will need to turn it off to access Peacock. It’s more of a problem than international access, and even the cat’s sympathetic eyes can’t improve it.
