Plex Goes Back to The Future With Free Live TV Service

Plex ad Thursday it is launching a new live TV streaming service. There are 80 channels which will be free and available to users in countries around the world. The company said more channels are on the way.

There is a wide range of content available, both for children and adults. There are Reuters TV and Yahoo Finance channels for news and business informationon, as well as a host of children’s content like Toon Goggles and KidsFlix. Some channels, such as Deal or No Deal Channel, are dedicated to individual shows. There are also 24/7 music channels and movie streams.

The service attempts to relive the “glory days” of live television. It’s largely funded by “limited” commercials, but Plex is experimenting with on-air promotions as well. Updates are being rolled out to Apple TV and iOS devices, and smart TVs will have access to the service in the near future.
