Musician Sarah Bareilles wrote all the songs on Apple TV + newcomer Little Voice. She told the South China Morning Post how her fellow executive producer J.J. Abrams forced her to sign up for the project.
Bareilles was a big fan of Felicity, the Keri Russell TV series that Abrams co-created. And Abrams was a huge admirer of Waitress, based on the 2007 film that also happened to the Russell star. “Apparently, I have something Keri Russell,” jokes Bareilles. Abrams didn’t have a plan, but he wanted more of what Bareilles and co-writer Jessie Nelson did with their 2016 Broadway show on a waitress in a violent marriage. “I started to think,” Wouldn’t it be interesting to see that same kind of tone [as Felicity], but what if Felicity was a songwriter? “- the idea of a young woman, a young woman, who finds her voice as an artist and as a person,” explains Bareilles.
