COVID Tracker Ireland
Applications based on the joint efforts of Apple and Google mean that data will not be stored on a centralized server. Instead, the phones will have an anonymous identifier and the app will download a list of these identifiers every two hours. If someone has been within six feet of an infected person for more than 15 minutes, they will receive a notification on their phone.
The application was developed by the HSE and the Department of Health, in collaboration with the Chief Information Officer of the government and An Garda Síochána, in collaboration with technical partners from the Irish private sector (Expleo, Nearform, Information Security Assurance Services Ltd ( ISAS), and EdgeScan) and scientific partners from the Science Foundation Ireland.
In June, the HSE published Documentation how the application works. People can download the app voluntarily instead of the government requiring them, but a survey has suggested that 82% of the Irish population is willing to download it.
