There are a variety of podcast apps, especially on the iPhone, but for many, Apple’s own app is the primary way to access the shows. Using this app, you can subscribe to shows and download episodes on your Mac, iPhone and iPad.
Subscribe and download podcasts on your Mac
Since iTunes is now more integrated with macOS Catalina, there is a separate Podcast application. There you can subscribe and download shows.
- Use the Browse tab to view recommended and recommended podcasts, as well as the different program categories available.
- Use the search bar to find a specific podcast that has been recommended to you.
When you’ve found a show you want to subscribe to, click on its name, then click the subscribe button on the right side. Then, in the View tab, you can click on the name of a podcast to see all of the available episodes. Click the cloud icon next to the episode title to download it to your Mac. If you no longer wish to listen to a certain podcast, click on the “…” on the cover are in the Shows tab. This brings up a menu from which you can unsubscribe from future episodes and delete those currently in your podcast library.
The process for doing these things is quite similar on iPhone (and iPad). Use the Browse tab and the search bar to find the podcasts that interest you, then tap subscribe. You can also unsubscribe from programs by holding down the cover, which calls up the options menu. (It goes without saying that you should subscribe to Mac Geek Gab, not unsubscribe!)
Your podcast library is synced across all your iOS devices using the same Apple ID, although downloads are obviously device specific.
