Listen to audio books on a Mac with Audible
Meeting on Audible.com. There, you can buy audiobooks on your Mac the same way you would buy an item on Amazon. (You do, however, need a monthly subscription.) Once you’ve purchased something you want to listen to, tap Library. All of your purchased items will be there, as shown in the image above. Tap the cover or title of the book you want to listen to> listen now and the book will start. If you’re listening on multiple devices, it syncs to the cloud so you can pick up where you left off.

Listening via Apple Books
First, you can buy audiobooks directly from Apple Books. Go to the Audiobooks tab at the top of the Books app on your Mac and buy what you like. They are then stored in the Library tab. Click on the track you want to listen to and enjoy.
However, you can also listen to audio books purchased on Audible through the Books app. To do this, go to Audible.com> Library> Download (next to the book you want to listen to). The first time you do this, you may be asked to authorize the use of Audible using Apple Books.
Once you’ve done that, your downloaded Audible audiobooks will appear in your Apple Books library on your Mac. (However, it doesn’t seem to sync between devices.)
