How to Change Your Apple ID Email and Create an Email Alias

Apple has an account page where you can change your Apple email address, as well as other aspects of your account. But there is a caveat.

Change your Apple email address

With this tip, we will, which is the account management page.

  • At the very top you will find the Account section. Click on Edit next to your email.
  • Under your Apple ID, you will see an option for Change Apple ID.
  • Enter the email you want to use, then click Continue.
  • Your old Apple ID email address will then become an additional email address for your account.

Here is the warning. If you replace it with an Apple email address such as @, @ or @, you can no longer replace it with a third-party email address. However, you can change it to an alias of your Apple address.

    Create an email alias

  • To create an alias, go to
  • Click on Mail, then click on gear icon at the bottom left.
  • Click on Preferences in the menu and then click on the Accounts tongue.
  • You will now see an option for Add an alias.
  • Creation of an icloud mail alias

    Creating an iCloud email alias

For example, suppose my Apple ID is [email protected] I could create an alias called [email protected] which connects to the first email, so the emails go to [email protected] would be really [email protected] It’s a good way to have multiple emails for websites that all go to the same inbox. But you can only have a maximum of three aliases (you can delete them).
