Apple seems poised to speed up iPhone manufacturing in India, moving some away from China. Key Apple executives have reportedly met with government officials across the country.
IPhone manufacturing moves from China to India
Production in India appears to be carried out by existing subcontractors Wistron and Foxconn. A senior government official told an Indian publication Economic time:
We expect Apple to produce up to $ 40 billion worth of smartphones, mainly for exports via its contract manufacturers Wistron and Foxconn, taking advantage of the benefits of the Production Incentive System (PLI).
This transition to manufacturing in India appears to be motivated by financial incentives offered by the Indian government. It would also provide quick access to a large but still relatively untapped market for Apple.
