MIAMI GARDENS, Florida – With Alabama threatening to interrupt another streak, Ohio State linebacker Baron Browning has come forward with the biggest defensive play of the national league game so far.
The Crimson Tide had just done what it does best. Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith set off in the backfield, snatching OSU cornerback Sevyn Banks off the perimeter. Mac Jones then fainted at Smith, who went for 12 yards and a first down.
Jones retired to move on to the next game. Buckeyes senior Browning took the ball out of his hands, then recovered the fumble himself.
After an interference pass penalty in the Alabama end zone, Master Teague ran for a touchdown to equalize the game 14-14.
Browning’s other finalist was Alabama before committing to the state of Ohio as part of the touted 2017 recruiting class. He and Justin Hilliard split time at Sam’s linebacker.
