Hi everyone, I currently have a MacBook Pro with a 500GB HDD drive but it runs ridiculously slow. I posted some time ago stating that I intended to upgrade the HDD and RAM to speed it up hopefully, but I was advised that I probably don’t need to upgrade the RAM at all, just upgrading the hard drive should be enough.
So I’m going to do this over the weekend, just want some more advice on my options.
My model is as follows:
Macbook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012) Non-Retina Intel Core i78 GB 2.3 GHz DDR3 1600 MHz
I believe this makes it a MacBookPro 9.1
I was planning to transfer all my files / photos / videos to an external hard drive, install the new SSD and then transfer them all back (purely in case there was any damage / conflict on my existing HDD that I didn’t want to sabotage my brand new SSD ) but then I realized it was going to be a nightmare as I would have to transfer across all my operating systems, programs, etc.
So, now I’m going to transfer my entire system to the new SSD.
Any tips / tutorials pointing me in the right direction would really help me.
Finally, I was looking for a recommendation for a decent quality SSD. I found some on Amazon.co.uk. Samsung, Crucial, Hypertec, Indmem or alternatively I have seen some from Flexx, which I believe may be a partner of OWC.
I was just wondering if anyone had any idea which brand they would recommend and can I upgrade to 2TB, or am I limited to 1TB.
Thanks in advance.
* EDIT: I just flipped through a few similar threads and saw that a clean install might be the best way for me. I definitely feel I would refer to this option, if anyone could post the steps required to do so, I would greatly appreciate it. I’m currently running Mojave 10.14.6 if that helps.
