The University of Minnesota apple team did it again: their new apple crop was named ‘Triumph‘. The red apple was created by crossing the “Liberty” and “Honeycrisp” apple varieties, and boasts a “pleasantly tart and well balanced” flavor as well as a long shelf life.
The new apple comes with the occasional russeting of the stem bowl. It also shows excellent a tolerance apple crust, a disease common to several apple varieties that leaves them covered in dark spots and makes them inedible.
Triumph trees will be available for purchase in 2021 through U of M licensed nurseries, but it may take a while …
