The former ambassador sues Apple and Alphabet to eliminate Telegram from the app stores

Former US Ambassador to Morocco Marc Ginsberg is suing Apple, asking it to remove the Telegram app from its App Store. According to the January 17 lawsuit, the messaging app is being used to coordinate violence, extremism, racism and anti-Semitism.

“Telegram is being used to intimidate, threaten and coerce members of the public,” Ginsberg’s complaint says. The Coalition for a Safer Web is a co-plaintiff in the lawsuit.

Ginsberg’s complaint claims that following Telegram’s stay on the App Store, he and others like him faced financial losses and emotional distress as one of the groups targeted by app users. He also reportedly did so sued Alphabet to have Telegram removed from the Google Play Store.

This is followed by the removal of Parler from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store following the uprising on the US Capitol on January 6.

“Telegram continues to allow incitement to extremists on its platform, promoting political violence as extremist groups and individuals migrate to Telegram following Apple’s suspension of Parler,” the complaint said.

Apple, Google and Telegram did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
