The Apple Watch helps with the contractor’s investigation of the alleged leak

According to the woman’s husband, an Apple Watch helped reveal a MetroNet contractor’s attempt to steal suspicious images from her phone. According to Philip VanWingerden, the contractor arrived at his family’s new home at the end of March to apply for a job. He said his wife was at home with his sister while he was working an hour. VanWingerden said the contractor, later known as Robert Chandler by Lexington police, asked VanWingerden’s wife’s smartphone to test an internet connection. He told LEX 18 that he felt this was a typical question and asked him before he left home.

“Little did he know,” he recalled. “Your watch is connected to your phone.” VanWingerden says his wife’s Apple Watch provides notifications that they are sending messages from her phone number to an unknown number. Police have confirmed that the number belongs to Chandler. “What we post is very clear, I would say, correct or sensitive information that couples may have on their phones,” VanWingerden said.

“[She was] not hysterical but worrying, ”VanWingerden recalled. “Like, ‘Hey, you need to come home. It’s about installing MetroNet. We have a problem.'” VanWingerden called the police, but Chandler filed a complaint. When officers arrived, Chandler apparently returned to Lexington police say an officer confronted Chandler, who admitted to sending four pictures and two videos to his cell phone.Chandler has been charged with distributing pornographic images without permission and access to a computer in the fourth floor. .

VanWingerden said an investigator told Chandler he had done this to other women. LEX 18 approached Lexington Police to inquire about Chandler’s past, but we have not heard back. VanWingerden said MetroNet helped initially, but since then he and his wife have not heard anything from them. They get something from the company: a bill for the project. “I think the least they can do is hit that money,” VanWingerden said. “But other than that, I think they just make sure they are doing a good job of evaluating their staff and who they select as employees.”

“At the end of March, we were informed of a disturbing allegation made against our employers. That complaint was immediately shared with the contracting company and the contractor terminated. We are ready to cooperate fully with local law enforcement to assist them in their investigation on this matter. The contractor’s alleged conduct is unacceptable. We will contact our customer to work with them on this matter. ”
