Spotify is gearing up to offer higher quality music streams to subscribers in a number of markets, with Spotify HiFi set to offer lossless audio, a feature not currently available on Apple Music.
In its ongoing race to push back Apple’s rival streaming service, Spotify used its virtual event Stream On Monday to launch a new feature. Spotify HiFi will provide users with a lossless audio format of CD quality.
Streamable via the Spotify app and via Spotify Connect-enabled speakers, the service will be an optional upgrade for Premium subscribers. Free tier users will need to subscribe to listen to higher quality streams.
