Small phones are likely to make a comeback thanks to Apple’s iPhone 12 Mini, and apparently one of the most popular is making a comeback too. According to the trusted @OnLeaks, Sony will bring back the Xperia Compact for 2021.
In a post on Voice, we take a first look at the as-yet-unnamed 2021 revival of the Sony Xperia Compact. The design is virtually identical to Sony’s latest Android smartphone collection, with just a couple of minor tweaks. For example, compared to the Xperia 5, this device has thinner bezels and uses a teardrop notch for the selfie camera.
But design is rather secondary here: the real story is the size. According to this leak, a 2021 version of the Sony Xperia Compact will offer a 5.5-inch display, only 0.1-inch larger than the iPhone 12 Mini. The overall dimensions also reach 140 x 68.9 x 8.9 mm. It’s a bit larger than the iPhone across the board, but only a few millimeters across each dimension. Part of this is the bezel, which is a bit thicker on the bottom.
The rest of the phone offers a headphone jack, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, Sony’s usual camera button, and a dual-camera setup on the back, which apparently includes a 13MP main sensor.
Sony’s latest Xperia Compact was the 2018 Xperia XZ2 Compact, which was about the same size. At the moment, it is unclear what specifics this 2021 revival will bring or the price.
