An interesting little device was discovered planted in the iPhone of Russian anti-corruption activist Lyubov Sobol, who was in charge of the campaign in the new year. On 21 December 2020, Sobol’s campaign manager Olga Klyuchnikova was taken into custody by the Russian FSB. She spent a week in prison on “administrative charges” and was released – but something was wrong.
In a video released this week, Sobol and colleagues showed the internal components of his smartphone, including what appears to be an awkwardly implanted tracking device. Apparently she noticed that there was something strange when her iPhone was given to her after being taken into custody. Being allowed to use your smartphone while in custody was odd enough, but the device began to “noticeably work” to the point of becoming suspicious.
