SharePlay is supported by Disney + on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV

The new Disney + app update released today includes SharePlay support, giving subscribers with an iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV another way to connect with friends and family by near and far by viewing Disney + content completely in sync during a FaceTime call. The Disney + SharePlay experience is available worldwide throughout the Disney + * content catalog from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and more, with new titles such as Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye and Welcome to Earth, as well as Disney shows + coming as Encanto (Dec. 24) and Boba Fett’s Book (Dec. 29).

SharePlay sessions can host up to 32 people and give each participant in the FaceTime call the flexibility of selecting sounds and subtitles in the language of their choice. Viewers who love big screen can also enjoy synchronized content on their Apple TV while sharing the time with personal and family friends on FaceTime via their iPhone or iPad.

SharePlay on Disney + is available to Apple TV, iPhone, and iPad users wherever Disney + is available. All users at a time must be a Disney + subscriber and have devices running tvOS 15.1, iOS 15.1 or iPadOS 15.1 or later in order to use the feature. GroupWatch, a Disney + native co-op viewing feature, will continue to be available worldwide to subscribers in the same country across all compatible devices and systems.

Disney has announced that it has updated the Disney + app across iOS, iPadOS, and tvOS to add SharePlay support, allowing Apple users to view content together via FaceTime. SharePlay support will allow Apple users to run iOS 15.1, iPadOS 15.1, and tvOS 15.1 and later to view Disney + content on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV devices. Disney says the support is global and covers the entire catalog of its content – including upcoming titles such as “Encanto” and “Boba Fett’s Book.”

SharePlay allows up to 32 FaceTime Group calls to view content simultaneously. Each participant in the call can choose their own voice and subtitle options.

“With thousands of movies and shows and a growing content catalog of new titles and initiatives, SharePlay provides another opportunity for personal and family friends around the world to gather and create new memories with their favorite stories on Disney +, ”said Disney’s Jerrell Jimerson. On Disney +, SharePlay support joins the existing GroupWatch native viewing feature, which continues to be available globally on supported devices. GroupWatch, however, only allows simultaneous viewing times to users in the same country. The feature should now be available on the latest version of the Disney + app available through the App Store.
