Safe This Week: Mysterious Mac malware, a sleek VMware RCE, and a JSON mess

There is a new strain of malware targeting MacOS, Silver sparrow, and it’s unusual for a couple of reasons. First, it is one of the few malware that targets the new M1 ARM64 processors. Just a reminder, this is Apple’s new internal silicone design. It’s unusual for a second reason: it’s not doing anything. More precisely, while the researchers were watching, the command and control infrastructure did not deliver a payload. Silver Sparrow has been positively found on nearly 30,000 machines.
