For someone who has achieved so many accomplishments in the time they have done, Mac Ayres has had a relatively short career, to say the least. Tracks like “Easy” and “Slow Down” on his debut EP “Drive Slow” pushed the artist to new heights in 2017.

Maintaining a consistent track record, Ayres consistently released two studio albums in 2018 and 2019. No projects were seen by the artist in 2020, leading many to assume he was taking his time to fine-tune his long-awaited sequel. . After the longest hiatus of his career, Mac is finally back with “Magic 8ball”.

The album, consisting of eight actual songs, is 28 minutes long. While it may be his shortest project to date, it is clear that the artist was aiming for quality rather than quantity. In the short run of the project, Ayres sings what may be some of her most personal and intimate lyrics to date.

Highlights include the opening album “Sunny & 62”, soulful “Brand New”, as well as “Where U Goin ‘Tonight?” The lyrics don’t stray from what Ayres has referred to in the past, as he mostly sticks to close relationships and the women he surrounds himself with.

In the aforementioned fan favorite “Where U Goin ‘Tonight?”, Ayres sings “Burned all my bridges, hey / But at least I stay warm, oh / I’ve been working on forgiveness / He said I don’t think he’s taking over.”

Ayres continues to effortlessly blend relaxing lo-fi music and chirping R&B. The only problem fans often face with the artist is the small amount of music flowing from him over the years.

More than 15 months after his previous release, “Juicebox”, eight short tracks, although quality oriented, may seem disappointing to many.

In short, the album is a real atmosphere. It’s a worthy addition to an already impressive catalog. At the young age of 24, Ayres is definitely an artist to watch over the next few years.
