More evidence has emerged of Apple’s plans to launch a podcast subscription service. The Information reports today that Apple is “discussing the launch of a new subscription service that would charge people to listen to podcasts,” but “it’s unclear when, or if, Apple will launch the new service.”
Update: Bloomberg has released a new report confirming Apple is “working on adding a subscription service to its podcasting business in 2021”.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of Apple’s plans to expand its reach in the podcast industry. Bloomberg previously reported on Apple’s plans to fund original content for Apple Podcasts. Today’s report says Apple is planning an “endangered podcasting subscription service for Spotify.”
The report does not offer many details on the service and warns that Apple may eliminate the plans altogether.
