Disable startup sound

Scenario: You will be working in a crowded place and don’t want to increase the noise pollution with your Mac’s startup sound.

If you turn off the volume before the trip, your Mac will remember it and reboot silently, or you can disable the beep using Terminal.

Launch Terminal Enter the following:

sudo nvram SystemAudioVolume =% 80

To activate the ringer in the Terminal:

sudo nvram –d SystemAudioVolume

Login message

You can add a message to the login screen when “Require Password” is enabled in the Security panel.

To create the message:
