With a nice addition for 2021 MacBook Pro users, Apple on Monday launched a Safari Technology Preview update, as a new feature allowing it to rotate 120Hz for ProMotion displays. Even with the high refresh rate display, this comes after users complained that browsing websites in Safari did not seem smooth. 135 version of Safari Technology on the new MacBook Pro, preview comes with support for this 120Hz animation.
For some unknown reason, Apple has launched MacOS Monterey without full 120Hz support in its native applications – which is strange because ProMotion is one of the first selling points of the 2021 MacBook Pro.
Unfortunately, since Safari Technology Preview is an experimental feature for developers, it will take some time before Safari’s native macOS version is updated with full ProMotion support.
In addition to the 120Hz support, the Safari 135 Technology Preview also comes with other enhancements and new features, as you can see below:
Release notes for Safari 135 Technology Preview are available with accent color, lazy image upload, glossy animations at 120Hz, queryVideoFrameCallback API, and new visual features including: svw / svh small, lvw / lvh large, & dvw / dvh strong.
For users who already have Safari Technology Preview installed, the update is available through the Software Update menu within the System Preferences application. If you do not have Safari Technology Preview installed, it is available for download on the Apple Developer website. This Safari feature can be installed on macOS Monterey and macOS Big Sur without replacing the original Safari application.
