Apple’s M1 Silicon has opened the door for more iOS and iPadOS apps to run on macOS in addition to the very few supported by Mac Catalyst on Intel-based Macs. Unsurprisingly, some consider the ports still not open enough as some apps are not yet available from the Mac App Store. This prompted some to look for a workaround that would allow them to install almost any iPhone or iPad app on the M1 Macs. Unfortunately for them, Apple has now closed that window, perhaps forever.
It might blow your mind why some Mac M1 owners would like to load iOS apps when iOS apps are supported on new ARM-based computers. The reason more or less boils down to why Mac users also “sideload” apps outside of the Mac App Store, at least for apps that aren’t available from Apple’s authorized store in the first place. Namely, not all iOS and iPadOS apps are available for installation on Mac M1.
