After Alabama defeated the state of Ohio and was celebrating in a sea of confetti, quarterback Mac Jones turned to Nick Saban and posed a rhetorical question to the Crimson Tide manager.
“He said, ‘Can you believe it,'” Saban recalled the morning after winning the Alabama championship in Miami, “‘from quarterback of a scout team to victory of a national championship?'”
Jones travel is rare in the quarterback position. The former 3-star recruit chose the crimson tide from Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida when Tua Tagovailoa, a 5-star prospect, was already busy. Jones wore the red jersey in 2017 but received a ring and was the number 3 quarterback behind Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts the following season in 2018.
