Launched in 2022, Google Pixel Watch to rival Apple Watch

For a while now, Google Pixel Watch has been in the rumors. Next to the Google Pixel 6 smartphone, Google is already considering launching the much-awaited wearable in October. Now, in 2022, a new report suggests that Google is working on the first in-house smartwatch that will be launched. Powered by Google’s Pixel application team, the watch is said to be codename “Rohan.”

Google’s first smartwatch also says it starts with a new version of Google smartwatch software. The wearable coming from Google expects to compete with the Apple Watch.

According to a report by Business Insider, Google is working on a smartwatch and plans to launch it in 2022. According to the report, the device will be represented internally as “Pixel Clock” or “Android Clock”. The upcoming Google Smartwatch is said to have a rounded shape unlike the Apple Watch and may come without a physical bezel. Device development is said to be accelerating this year and Google has reported that outside staff of the smartwatch team to test the device and provide results. One of the response times took place in November, the report added. Therefore the launch times may vary following the feedback from the staff testing the device.

Google Pixel Watch is said to monitor health and fitness metrics. It hopes to start with heart rate monitoring and health-based tracking features with step reading. The current version of the device runs one day on charge and it charges slowly. Google’s wearable is also said to use proprietary patents.

If the new test round proves successful, the company is likely to launch Google Clock in early spring 2022, the reports quoted Google staff as saying.

Separately, a report by Verge adds that the Pixel Watch will be more expensive than Fitbit’s friends. The report further states that the upcoming Google wearable will compete more directly with the Apple Watch.

Google Pixel Watch will mark the entry of a US technology giant into the wearable technology space. Google has adopted the Fitbit wearable brand as the first step in launching its wearables business. But the upcoming Google Pixel Watch is reported not to fall under the Fitbit brand.

Currently, the Apple Watch enjoys a significant share of the global smartwatch market. According to a new report by the research firm Counterpoint for the third quarter of 2021, Apple has maintained its control in terms of global smartwatch transfers while Samsung secures second place. Amazfit, Imoo, and Huawei are in the top five.
