Congratulations to Katie Kantz, this week’s Golden Apple winner! Mrs. Kantz teaches social studies and English at Brighton Twelve Middle School. It is more than just being a good student in your class; it is also about writing how to be a good person. Kantz says: “Taking care of ourselves and our community. “In our classroom, we talk a lot about social justice and how we can grow to be leaders in our society.”
Kantz has been coaching for about 15 years and his colleagues say the passion he brings with him to work every day makes him special. “As an employee, I cannot ask for more. You are one of those people who want to do everything and anything you can to make this a better place and a more enjoyable place for not only the students, but also for your classmates , ”Said President Danielle Edmunds. Edmunds incorporates Kantz helping students in his classroom know their community and respect those around them.
In recent years, Kantz has had a huge impact on his students. 6th grader Isabella Williams says Kantz has helped her enjoy school again. “He was a very good teacher, he was energetic, he made me love reading and writing and writing in general, and he introduced me to my best friends,” Williams said. Williams said Mrs. Kantz supported her love of reading and writing, so she joined the school newspaper team. In his role, he wrote articles about sports and video games.
“No other teacher has made that connection to me, so I think having it encourages this love of reading and writing,” Williams said. He added that Mrs. Kantz makes learning fun and even offers student celebrations if they read a certain number of books. For all these reasons, Williams wants to recognize his teacher with the Golden Apple Award through News 8. “I am very impressed, I mean all the teachers in the house, we have amazing colleagues we work with, and that I am very. tomorrow. So thank you very much, ”Kantz said when he received the gift.
Edmunds adds that the gift speaks to Mrs. Kantz’s work in her classroom. “It took Isabella time and not only did she need to think about it, but she wrote a long letter, and shared a lot of information about the role that Mrs. Kantz had on her,” Edmunds said. Congratulations to Mrs. Kantz! Thank you for everything you do in our community. If you know of a teacher you want to nominate for the Apple Golden Award, you can find alternative forms here.
