Apple’s small AirPods, AirPods Pro, and larger AirPods Max definitely deserve to be protected with AppleCare +. Except Apple did the math, and what it will cover you for and not cover you for makes a difference.
We’re not beating Apple for this: AppleCare + is crafted with the same care as any other company’s insurance. But there are times when you can see the result of those calculations, for example with the coverage limits of AirPods, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max.
You never know if a device will need a repair, but with these it’s a fair bet that you’ll lose them long before you can break an AirPod. Apple made the same bet and decided not to offer cover for theft and loss.
It’s possible to buy replacement AirPods from Apple, but you’ll pay like anyone else because AppleCare + won’t cover you for it.
What it will cover you for is accidental damage. Specifically, you get up to two damage incidents per year of coverage.
