Six months after the arrival of the first COVID alert smartphone apps based on a privacy framework from Apple and Google, yet another shortage of coronavirus pandemics remains.
Less than half of the US offers Android and iOS tools for the “exposure notification” system announced by the two companies last April, which estimates the proximity of other people via anonymous Bluetooth beacons sent from phones with the same software.
Most people in participating states have yet to activate these apps. Those who consent and therefore test positive for the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 must rejoin by entering a verification code provided by the doctor in their apps.
