A “s” or not a “s”, that’s the question?
When Apple launched the iPhone 11 series, many thought the company had dropped the s nickname for its smartphones. But a rumor last week said Apple could do it again this year. In fact, we just noticed another rumor that mentions the iPhone 12s series.
In June last year, Apple’s display vendor was rumored to be working on LTPO display panels. This is a new variant of OLED technology, which aims to provide lower operating temperature and power consumption. It should also offer a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Of course, many thought the display would be used on the iPhone 13 series.
Current and purported LTPO smartphones for 2021 so far- S21 Ultra- Oppo Find X3 / Pro- Z Flip 3- Z Fold 3- Xiaomi Mi 12- Huawei Mate 50 Pro- Apple iPhone 12s Pro- Apple iPhone 12s Pro Max
– Ross Young (@DSCCRoss) January 22, 2021
However, Ross Young has tweeted a list of smartphones that are expected to have an LTPO display this year and the iPhone 13 series is missing. Instead, you’ll find that it has listed the iPhone 12s Pro and iPhone 12s Pro Max. Young himself isn’t sure if Apple wants to call it the iPhone 12s or iPhone 13 series, so take this news with a grain of salt.
Naming convention aside, we think the display alone could convince those who skipped the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 series to upgrade. What are you saying? Let us know what else you would like to see from the iPhone 12s series and stay tuned to TechNave for more updates on that.
