Intel announced this week that Bob Swan would step down as CEO, with Pat Gelsinger taking over the helm starting in February. Before his formal start as CEO next month, Gelsinger is already asking Intel to step up its efforts to compete with Apple, or what he calls a “lifestyle company in Cupertino.”
Following the announcement of the CEO’s transition, Gelsinger held a 360-degree meeting with Intel employees. As The Oregonian reports (via The Verge), Gelsinger used this opportunity to denounce Intel’s inability to “deliver better products” than Apple.
“We need to deliver better products to the PC ecosystem than anything possible offered by a lifestyle company in Cupertino,” Gelsinger told Intel employees. “We have to be so good in the future.”
