In iOS and tvOS, Evidence of ‘SportsKit’ process was discovered

Apple is planning to push enthusiasm into sports media and deliver improved information, code in Apple’s new beta versions of Apple indicates a new process called “SportsKit.”

Discovered by 9to5Mac in iOS releases back to iOS 15.2, “SportsKit” is a new framework for iOS and tvOS applications currently connected to Siri, Apple TV applications and home screen widgets.

Little is known about “SportsKit” beyond its availability in developer betas, although the publication was able to dass the ability of the home screen widget to display sports scores and updates in real time. Siri has supported boxing scores for years and the new process could expand those interactions to new areas of iOS, the report said.

According to private policy, general developments are unable to access “SportsKit.” That should not come as a surprise considering the global control over the penetration of sports media. What is surprising, however, is that Apple is investing in sports-centric hardware, a move that suggests partnerships with key rights holders in those services.

Rumors of Apple’s prospects in the sports field have been circulating for years, but the technology giant has not yet announced a flagship product. In 2020, the technology giant is said to be pursuing a live streaming agreement with the Pac-12 Conference, while more recent reports say the company is in talks to get claims for Sunday tickets.

Most likely working on those deals is James DeLorenzo, Amazon’s former sports content leader who was terminated by Apple last year.

The live stream will join the Apple TV + series of sports-related series and specialties which includes the short format “Big Code” and “Swagger,” a historical account of American basketball. Most recently, Apple signed an initial visual agreement with former ESPN director John Skipper and assistant Dan Le Batard to publish unsolicited content for the project.
