Search, there’s no need to be irreverent here. The point is, it’s not really possible to get sharp, properly scaled fonts this way on macOS (you can use the zoom performance created for much higher quality, but that’s not what OP wants). The scaling implemented by macOS targets significant DPI displays and will provide poor results on shows with small DPI, which is why it is disabled.

Surely where the OP has actually solved its dilemma – albeit by jumping through the absurd circles it has outlined – is proof that it * is * indeed possible to achieve ‘predictable impression quality’ by applying other components, but it is only that Apple doesn’t want to allow its customers to simply do it?
