Google Calendar moves the search button on the top navigation bar for easier access

While not necessarily the best calendar experience, Google Calendar is a solid digital diary, but a recent switch to the search button in the top navigation bar might be one of the best simple UI tweaks in recent updates.

A recent change has now moved the search button (the little magnifying glass that indicates search) from the hamburger side menu to the top navigation bar within the main calendar and agenda view pane. Given that Google is the market leader in search, it’s kind of weird that it took so long to make this kind of usability change.

The change was spotted by the Android police and appears to have been implemented with the latest version of the Google Calendar app on Android. It has not yet been updated on the iOS versions of the app, but the dedicated support pages are now live, suggesting that it will be rolled out to all users very soon. You can see the very small search button at the top of the Google Calendar navigation bar in the gallery below next to the “Go to … calendar.”
