GIF display and hardware encoding have been added to Premiere Pro

Adobe announced the latest version of its Premiere Pro video editor on Tuesday, following an upgrade to Photoshop for the iPad. The software now supports hardware encoding for export, in addition to additional capabilities such as GIF transparency and HDR representations. According to the company, Adobe Premiere Pro’s “May 2022 release (version 22.4)” has several upgrades. Professionals can now export explicit GIFs, giving them “more flexibility for short social media applications.” New options for changing the field have also made it easier to scatter elements in captions and images.

For Mac users, Adobe Premiere Pro now supports hardware encoding, either on Intel or M1 systems. Adobe says export times for 10-bit 4: 2: 0 HEVC videos can be up to 10 times faster with the update. Windows users will also see the same improvements on PCs with AMD GPUs. In addition, the updates make the playback of QuickTime Screen Recording smoother, as well as making the rendering process more reliable. Support is also available for HDR representatives, so the application generates medium- and high-resolution media in perfect color space.

Premiere Pro 22.4 is focused on performance. Fast export markets for 10-bit 4: 2: 2 HEVC are now available across all platforms, thanks to new application code support for macOS and AMD GPUs on Windows. Smart rendering performance is improved and playback of QuickTime screen recording is smoother. Features enhancements in this release include support for transparency in GIFs and options to distribute between objects for titles and images.

The update is now available for Adobe Creative Cloud subscribers. More details about what’s new with the May 2022 release can be found on the Adobe website.
