Foxconn is poised to build a new tablet and computer manufacturing factory in Vietnam, which could be part of Apple’s plan to expand its iPad and MacBook production lines outside of China.
Established to be located in the northern Bac Giang province, the government said the plant is expected to produce eight million units of products annually, mainly consisting of notebooks and tablets. Since Foxconn is a major assembly partner for Apple, it is possible that some of this production could be for the iPad and MacBook.
In November, it was alleged that Apple asked Foxconn to transfer some of its iPad and MacBook production from China to Vietnam in an effort to diversify production. The US-China trade war has been a pressure point for the company, forcing it to find ways to minimize the impact of intercontinental political maneuvers.
