Tutorial

Note: This tutorial assumes that someone else is playing a song or podcast on your HomePod and you want to know what it is.

Step 1. Unlock your iPhone or iPad

Step 2. Make sure you are connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your HomePod. You can confirm by going to Settings> Wi-Fi

Step 3. Now drag down from the top right corner to bring up the Control Center. Those with iPhone Touch ID can swipe up to do the same

Step 4. Tap the audio button in the Now Playing box in the upper right corner

Step 5. Tap the audio source button as highlighted in the screenshot below

Step 6. Find your HomePod in the device list and you’ll see what’s playing next to its name

If your iPhone or iPad is the audio source for what’s currently playing on HomePod, finding out what’s playing is even easier. Check out the lock screen or Now Playing box in Control Center.

That’s it, you’ve now learned what’s currently playing on your HomePod, whether it’s a song, a podcast, or even something else. This is something extremely useful and I end up using this feature all the time, especially when someone else is playing songs on the HomePod and I am the listener with no choice.

Of course you can always take the Shazam route if you wish. After Apple’s acquisition of the service, you can Shazam a song and add the track directly to your Apple Music library, which is nothing but a convenience.
