If you woke up this morning and were inexplicably disconnected from the Facebook app on your iPhone, you’re not alone. Facebook says a “configuration change” affected people’s ability to log into the Facebook app on their iPhone on Friday night, but the problem appears to have been fixed for most users since then.
Facebook has disconnected iPhone users
Interestingly, the problem appears to have primarily affected iPhone users only. On Friday night, users of Facebook for iOS took to Twitter to ask themselves why they had been disconnected from the application for no reason. Some users with two-factor authentication enabled also had a hard time regaining access to their account, and some even had to upload images of a valid ID to log in. Concerned users claim that the two-factor authentication SMS codes were very slow to send, or not send at all.
The problem was so widespread that it turned into a trending topic on Twitter as users speculated why Facebook disconnected all iPhone users at the same time.
A Facebook spokesperson released the following statement a Engadget:
“We are aware that some people are currently having trouble logging into Facebook. We believe this is due to a configuration change and are working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.”
Facebook did not provide further details on what exactly happened. In a social media post, the company said the “configuration change” was fixed around 6 am ET on Saturday morning. The social network has never gone offline. The only problem was that iPhone users were logged out of their account and some could not regain access easily.
