(Pocket-lint) – Last year, Apple and Google launched Fortnite from their respective app stores, and now, the game’s developer, Epic Games, claims the two companies violate UK competition laws.
The whole line boils down to: When you buy an app, subscription, or in-app item on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, Apple and Google get a percentage of the sale. They usually require a 30% reduction, but the rate can be lower.
In August 2020, Epic Games overturned the rules of Apple and Google, allowing Fortnite players to purchase virtual currency at a lower price, directly from Epic Games. The developer previously said he believes the 30% cut is too much. In response, both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store have removed Fortnite from their app stores.
