A new report from Bloomberg today sheds more light on what to expect from this year’s update for the iPhone. The report says Apple “isn’t planning major changes” for the iPhone 2021, but a key update is being tested: an in-screen fingerprint reader.
Internally, Bloomberg says Apple engineers refer to the iPhone 2021 as an “S” year update, which implies minor updates over the iPhone 12.
According to people familiar with the situation, Apple is not planning any major changes for this year’s iPhone line, given the improvements made to the smartphone in 2020, including 5G and new designs. Inside Apple, engineers consider the upcoming iPhones to be another “S” version of the device, the nomenclature typically given to new iPhones with minor updates.
