Apple wins a patent for reconfigurable Mac keyboards that could quickly adapt to gaming and language switching

On the last day of the patent granted in 2020, the United States Patent and Trademark Office officially granted Apple a patent for a reconfigurable keyboard. This was a patent pending theme from Apple, and in late November we covered one titled “Apple Wins Patent For An Adaptive Input Surface That Could Represent A Virtual Keyboard, Game Or Music Controller And More”.

In the patent granted today, Apple claims in its background that, to help a user identify the keys in a keyboard, the keys on the keyboard are often labeled. Labels (which can sometimes be referred to as glyphs, symbols, key symbols, key labels, etc.) can be used to help a user identify keys. For example, letter keys can be labeled with letters, number keys can be labeled with numbers, and function keys can be labeled with symbols that represent math operations or other functions.
