New images and videos purporting to show an Apple Watch prototype, hidden by a security case that resembles a small iPod, offer a rare glimpse behind the curtain of product development from the notoriously secretive company built by Steve Jobs. First introduced a few months ago by Twitter user Apple Demo, this is our first look at the device powered on and running Apple’s in-house development apps on a pre-watchOS 1.0 software build.
The video begins by showing what appears to be the original cardboard packaging used to deliver the prototype hardware to the testers. “This product is classified as Apple Confidential and is designated an” Ultra “security program,” the label reads. “This prototype MUST be returned when invoked or when yours,” says the label before being blanked out to hide the device’s origins.
