Apple was Japan’s largest smartphone brand in 2020 with 47.3% market share

International Data Corporation (IDC) has released its report on the Japanese mobile phone and smartphone markets for Q4 2020 and full 2020 respectively. Not surprisingly, Apple was the most popular brand. The Cupertino tech giant along with four domestic brands and Samsung have captured most of the market.

According to the report, the Japanese mobile phone market sold 11.432 million units in the fourth quarter of 2020 with a growth of 10.6% year-on-year. This is mainly due to the release of the 5G compatible iPhone 12 series. Apple’s shipments increased 13.8% year-on-year to 6.015 million units. It had a whopping 52.6% market share.
