Apple M1 computers affected by new “silver sparrow” malware, 30,000 infected

In November 2020, Apple unveiled a series of new computers powered by the company’s first internal silicon: the Apple M1 chip.

In early 2021, it appears that Apple’s line of new computers has already been breached by a set of malicious software dubbed “Silver Sparrow”. Just under 30,000 of Apple’s new computers have already been infected, according to security firm Red Canary, mainly in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, France and Germany.

Infected machines range from the Mac Mini desktop to the latest version of Apple laptops. Both the latest MacBook Air and the 13-inch MacBook Pro are powered by M1 chips.
