Apple is talking to self-driving vehicle lidar vendors: Bloomberg

Apple has reportedly begun talking with lidar self-driving car sensor suppliers, as part of its effort to build an electric vehicle, according to Bloomberg.

Common on many self-driving vehicles and prototypes, lidar sensors are used to determine the vehicle’s distance to objects, people and other vehicles. The technology is also used for other technologies, including some iPhone models.

Apple was talking to several lidar vendors working on next-generation hardware, according to Bloomberg. The report also claims that Apple has developed much of the software required for self-driving vehicles in-house. But launching a vehicle could take at least five years, Bloomberg …
