Apple is investigating by the Department of Labor as employee concerns arose

“We can confirm that Apple is the subject of an ongoing whistleblower investigation,” a Department of Commerce spokesman told CNN on Tuesday. Occupational Health and Safety (OSHA) investigates cases of alleged retaliation by employers against employees who raise concerns about issues such as employee safety under the Department of Labor’s security system. The Department of Labor has refused to share any details about the investigation or its aftermath. but former Apple, AAPL, employee Ashley Gjøvik received notice from OSHA on Friday that it had opened an investigation based on a complaint filed earlier this year, according to a copy of an OSHA letter sent to Gjøvik reviewed by CNN Business. Gjøvik, Apple’s former chief technology officer, has commented on concerns in recent months, saying he began promoting the company on environmental and health issues in Sunnyvale, California office in March Third 2021, where he worked. He told CNN Business that Apple had written down its concerns and asked him not to talk about them. Gjøvik then filed a complaint with the US Environmental Protection Agency and the Security and Exchange Commission.

Gjøvik was suspended from his job in early August and could leave on September 9, according to his OSHA complaint, which he said was in retaliation for the report of his concerns.

Announcement of the Department of Labor’s investigation and in response to Gjovic’s claims of retaliation, Apple reiterated an earlier statement: “We are always committed to creating and maintaining a good workplace and commitment.” According to a statement from Apple spokesman Josh Rosenstock, “We take all concerns seriously and conduct a thorough investigation whenever a concern arises, and because of respect for the privacy of anyone involved, we treat specific employees. “Do not discuss matters.”

Reports of the Department of Labor investigation have already been reported by the Financial Times and the New York Times.

The Service Department investigation is new in the eating disputes between Apple and its employees. In recent months, employees have broken the legendary tradition of corporate secrecy to discuss controversial hiring decisions, unpaid wages and remote employment policies in hiring an employee who has become known as #AppleToo. Apple has also faced complaints from the National Labor Relations Commission through current and former employees, including #AppleToo director Janneke Parish, who has accused her of withdrawing retaliation for her organizational efforts. (Apple did not comment specifically on the Parish rifle at the time.)
