Apple has updated its repair program for the 13-inch 2016 MacBook Pro to address the so-called “stage light” problem, increasing eligibility four to five years after the unit first retailed.
Apple launched its 13-inch MacBook Pro display backlight service program in May 2019, allowing a small number of 2016 13-inch MacBook Pro users to troubleshoot a backlight issue on their devices. For some units, the backlight may exhibit an effect similar to stage lighting, which the program proposes to correct.
The problem of bright and dark spots at the bottom of the screen was found to be due to the fact that Apple used flimsy flexible cables instead of metal cables, as used in previous models, which wear out over time. This can cause parts of the backlight to stop displaying or completely stop the backlight.
